Brrrr2......

Eight Eden Runners & one guest turned up for the inaugral January Jape at Askham today although Julia arrived a little late for the start having run all the way from Penrith!! The runners were treated to a beautiful day with clear blue skies & spectacular views of the Lake District in full winter garb from the top of Heughscar.

Racing appeared to quite competetive with route choice playing an important part in the final results and it was not without incident. Alan Marshall suffered a self inflicted ankle injury after kicking himself ( I always thought this was a figure of speech rather than a physical act) and Craig drawing blood after 'skating on thin ice!' (photo above)
The overall winner was Mark Bissell with Gill Douglas first lady. (Full results on the discussion group thread.)
Thank you to all those that turned up. Ian

Brrrrr.......

Deep snow & icy conditions failed to deter at least 10 hardy Eden Runners taking part in the Nine Standards race today the 1st January 2010. It was certainly a wake up call for the body with sub zero temperatures & neck deep snow (if you were only 2ft tall or 50cm if you've gone new fangled). As club we was done proud, as they say, with overall 4th & 5th males (Stu & Anth respectively), 1st mv40 (Stu again, possibly a taster of things to come), 3rd overall female (Anja Phoenix, hope you've paid your subs) and Team prizes for both boys & girls.
A special mention must go to Tony, who not normally a fell runner, put in a sterling effort in extreme condtions to finish still with a smile on his face.
What a brilliant start to the New Year! Well done one & all.
